Martin Makole also known as Mathi Nys Dj Lemathi, Is A DJ born & bred in Marapyane & is one of the most known DJs in this small village.

A passion that he has had since he was still in primary school, music has always been the only thing that the artist thought of. He started being interested in music after he was introduced to the world of music by his former class mate, a friend, Dj and music producer, Eric “Sekgaila” Dimpe, while he was still a student at Dikotelo Combined School and has never looked back.

He has had a big support system behind him from the moment he started his musical journey. Reminiscing on the past, Tsele Matseke; Director of Maiphepi Lounge; said “he started being our resident DJ from an early age, “I remember he was using a very old computer but it did the job”.

The journey continued after he finished his matric at Khamane High School in 2007; he went on to study Sound technology at Boston city campus in Pretoria (Arcadia campus). After finishing with his studies he continued to be the resident DJ at Maiphepi Lounge, furthermore, he has his own sound system for hire & promotes major events in and around Marapyane.

His passion for music has allowed him the opportunity to share the stage with many famous and internationally recognised DJs, such as Black Motion, Scorpion Kings and many others. Each year he continues to deliver and continuously forms part of major local annual events like the mega 25s Party held in Marapyane during the festive seasons. He shares that,“Meeting top DJs and getting advice on how to achieve the same heights they have, has been one of my favourite moments”.

But with everything else that is good, DJing is paired with its own challenges. He shared that some of these challenges have been a motivation to him to have resilience and to keep pushing, “people do not share information on how to reach the top and the right channels to go through in order to reach to the top”. This has partly been a motivation for him to consider going into music production, he said “DJing on its own, will take you a while to be recognized”.

Offering advice to the new DJs just entering the industry, he said they should always have something else on the side and not just focus solely on the music industry as it is hard to get in and make a sustainable living.
